Pouli is a two-person independent label with its own small studio in Kent. It makes clothing in limited, hand-cut batches, largely to pre-order, in natural materials — warm, minimal and made to last — and sells hand-picked vintage clothing, accessories and homeware alongside it.
We worked with Pouli to create a collection in high-quality natural cloth, at the sampling and production end: patterns arrive, and garments leave.
The work
The range is built on linen — double-breasted suiting, tiered dresses and dungarees. Linen is straightforward to sew and difficult to make look expensive. It creases, it relaxes after pressing, and it shows every inaccuracy in a seam, so consistency across a run is the whole job: every piece has to press the same way and hang to the same length.
Relaxed tailoring is deceptive in the same way. A jacket cut to look effortless still needs the shoulder, the sleeve pitch and the back balance to be right, or it hangs off the body rather than on it.
