A well-made garment is worth keeping. Most of what gets thrown away fails at one point — a zip, a lining, a seam — while the cloth itself has years left in it.
Zip replacement
The single most common repair we do. Dresses, trousers, skirts, jeans, coats, boots, handbags, luggage and leather. We match the weight and colour of the zip to the garment rather than fitting whatever is in the drawer, and on a lined coat the lining is opened and closed properly so no stitching shows.
Seams, linings and cuffs
Split seams restitched on industrial machines so they hold. Linings replaced completely when they have shredded — we cut a new one to the garment's own pattern rather than patching. Shirt collars and cuffs turned or replaced. Pocket bags renewed in coats and trousers where they have worn through.
Invisible mending and moth damage
Moth holes in wool and cashmere, cigarette burns, snags and small tears. Depending on the cloth we either reweave using yarn taken from a seam allowance inside the garment, or patch from behind and close the surface. On a patterned or textured cloth the repair is genuinely hard to find. On a flat, fine, plain cloth it will be less invisible, and we will tell you that before you commit.
Leather, suede and outerwear
Zips, seams, linings and panel replacement in leather and suede. Technical and waterproof outerwear repaired where the fabric allows — bring it in so we can look at the membrane and the taping first.
Press studs, eyelets and poppers
Replaced or fitted new — press studs and poppers on jackets and children’s clothes, eyelets on belts, bags, corsetry and curtains, rivets and jeans buttons. We fit them properly with the right press so they do not pull through the cloth. For businesses, we fit them in quantity too.
Curtains, cushions and soft furnishings
Not everything we repair is clothing. Curtain headings and hems, cushion covers, loose covers and upholstery seams all come through the studio. See curtains and blinds for made-to-measure work.
Things people ask
Is it worth repairing or should I replace it?
Bring it in and we will tell you straight. If the cloth is sound and the failure is a zip, a seam or a lining, repairing is almost always cheaper and the garment lasts years longer. If the fabric itself has gone, we will say so rather than take your money.
Will the repair show?
On textured, patterned or dark cloth, usually not. On fine, flat, pale cloth a mend is harder to hide. We tell you what to expect before starting, not afterwards.
How long do repairs take?
Most are ready within a week. Invisible mending and re-lining take longer because they are hand work.
Can you replace a zip in a leather jacket?
Yes. Leather needs a different needle, thread and machine from cloth, which is why many shops decline it. Bring it in for a price.
Do you repair curtains and cushions?
Yes — headings, hems, linings, cushion covers and upholstery seams.
