We are twenty-five minutes down the A2 from south-east London, and we travel in regularly for production floors, studios, workrooms and theatres.
London has a great many people sewing and a shrinking number of people able to fix the machines they sew on. Most of the technicians who served the old rag trade have retired, and the ones who remain are stretched. We are close enough to be useful and far enough out to still have workshop space.
Who we come out to
Production floors and CMT units. Fashion studios and sample rooms. Theatre, costume and film workrooms. Upholstery and soft furnishing workshops. Colleges and universities with a room full of machines that all need servicing before term. Alteration shops and dry cleaners with one machine that has to keep working.
On site or in the workshop
Industrial machines bolted into a line are repaired where they stand — we bring tools and common spares. Domestic machines and anything needing a strip-down are usually better brought to Northfleet, where the parts and the test cloth are.
Travel and cost
Labour is £80 per hour with a £80 minimum call-out covering the first hour. Travel is £1.50 per mile beyond a ten mile radius of Gravesend. For a room of machines it is almost always worth doing them in one visit rather than one at a time — the travel is charged once.
Where we cover
South-east London and the Thames corridor most often: Greenwich, Lewisham, Woolwich, Bexley, Bromley, Dartford and the Medway towns. We go further into London and across Kent and Essex for larger jobs and for contract servicing. Ring and ask — if it is not worth your money for us to travel, we will say so.

Do you actually travel into London?
Yes, regularly. We are on the A2 at Northfleet, which is closer to south-east London than most of London is to itself. Travel is £1.50 per mile beyond ten miles of Gravesend.
Can you service a whole room of machines in one visit?
Yes, and it is much better value — travel is charged once rather than per machine. Colleges and production floors usually do it this way before a term or a season.
Do you do emergency call-outs?
We do what we can. Ring rather than email if a machine going down has stopped work, and we will give you a straight answer about today.
Is it cheaper to bring the machine to you?
For a domestic machine, yes — no travel charge, and the workshop has everything in it. For an industrial machine bolted into a line, no.
